Language is central to students’ intellectual, social and emotional development. Competence in English allows students to learn about the role of language in their everyday lives. The English Curriculum assists students to develop knowledge, skills and understandings about the English language and literature.
The English Curriculum is organised into three strands:
Through the English Curriculum, students develop their knowledge of language structures, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Students are encouraged to develop critical literacy skills by listening to, reading, and writing in a range of contexts.
